Where does the money go?
Funds raised from our Christmas Appeal will go towards the screening, recruiting and matching of volunteer mentor 'Pyjama Angels' with a child in care. Pyjama Angels support children in care by reading aloud with them, playing educational games, focus on literacy, numeracy, life skills and so much more.
Money raised also goes towards providing kids in care with new learning resources including books, games, and puzzles.
Why should I donate this Christmas?
Every hour, 2 vulnerable children enter the foster care system in Australia.
Many of these children have experienced trauma, neglect and instability at a young age.
It impacts their confidence, their ability to trust others, and their core foundation for learning.
Without early intervention and a strong support system, children in care are at a greater risk of following the cycle of disadvantage.
By donating this Christmas, The Pyjama Foundation is hoping to gift 80 children their own special Pyjama Angel mentor to support them through the new year.
What does The Pyjama Foundation do?
The Pyjama Foundation was created to provide children in care with a world full of unlimited opportunity, to create positive relationships, and instil a love of learning.
At The Pyjama Foundation, we provide children in foster care the opportunity to change the direction of their lives with learning, life skills and confidence.
Through our Love of Learning Program, volunteer mentors called ‘Pyjama Angels’ are recruited, screened, trained and then matched with a child in care and spend time with them once a week, focusing on learning-based activities.
Pyjama Angels read books aloud with their child, play educational games and help children with their homework. Most importantly, the volunteers give foster children a chance to reach their life potential, despite a fragile start.
Children in care have the lowest education outcomes nationally. By improving their learning skills, The Pyjama Foundation is making a positive, life-long impact.
What does 'gifting matching' mean?
When you donate to our Christmas Appeal on our Giving Day, your donation is given the chance to make DOUBLE the impact thanks to our generous Christmas Partners, Direct Connect, CGC and MLILY.
For example, when you donate $5 to The Pyjama Foundation, every $1 will be matched by $1 – meaning your $10 donation becomes $20.
